VAT Relief

What is VAT Exemption / Relief?

Government legislation states that VAT exemption allows chronically sick or disabled people to buy eligible items at 0% VAT thus saving them money.

Who is eligible for VAT relief?

To be eligible for VAT relief the government says you have to fit the following criteria:

Charities who simply just provide their charity number.

A person is 'chronically sick or disabled' if he/she is a person:

  • with a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon his/her ability to carry out everyday activities
  • with a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes
  • Who is terminally ill

Important: It does NOT include a frail elderly person who is otherwise able-bodied or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.

What proof do you need to provide?

In order to waive VAT on your purchase, the government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability at the time of ordering. No proof of your disability needs be shown to any person at any time.

Its very easy to claim VAT relief, all we need to know is the name, address and disability of the person the item is for and what their chronic sickness or disability is. We don't need a doctor's letter or certificate.

You will provide the above information during the online checkout process. During registration on this site you will have four options to choose. These are:

  • I dont qualify for VAT exemption
  • I qualify for VAT exemption
  • I represent a qualifying Charity
  • Buying for someone who qualifies

Once you have been assigned to the correct section your VAT status will remain the same for each time you log on. You will not have to input the same information again.

Which Items are eligible?

VAT Exemption only applies to certain items; these are items which have been designed to be used by someone who is chronically sick or disabled. Examples of such products are Mobility Scooters, Wheelchairs, Bath Lifts, incontinence products and such like.

Displayed Prices

Prices displayed on our website are shown including VAT and without VAT. If you register as "exempt" then during the checkout process all relevant VAT charges will be removed. This will only apply to items which are exempt from VAT under the rules and other items including delivery charges will still incur VAT at the current rate.

Who Decides?

The Government of the day decide which items are or are not exempt. We have no choice in the matter. We don't make any more or less money if we charge you VAT as all VAT is submitted to the Government.

If you do not complete the VAT ememption form, or you are not eligible for VAT relief, we are obliged to charge you the full VAT at the current rate on the whole of your order.

If you fail to return or sign any VAT emeption forms to us which we may provide you with then by law we WILL invoice you for the outstanding VAT.

Not all of our products are eligible for VAT relief, so we are obliged to charge VAT for those products even after you complete this form.
